Education

The following documents reflect a summary of the exchange of ideas and recommendations that were generated during the Focus: 50 to 100 Planning Kick-Off; the three Education Town Hall Meetings.

The actual participant notes that are taken during each of the town hall meetings are provided here as a reference. Although, the notes do not fully capture the tone and depth of the discussions, they do provide some contextual basis from which the meeting reports and recommendations are developed.

The first meeting was a very good exercise about what attributes would characterize a UNLV graduate. Several of the group's suggestions were very similar to those developed at the General Education Retreat on September 7. From the set 21 attributes developed at the Gen Ed retreat, several of the Retreat's attributes were similar to some of the attributes developed at the first Town Hall meeting, including:
1. Function in a democratic society
2. Access, verify, analyze information efficiently
3. Collect, analyze, and draw appropriate conclusions based on evidence
4. Appreciate global diversity
5. Communicate effectively in speech and writing
6. Ability to transfer knowledge from academic learning to the job
7. Demonstrate skills and knowledge of a foreign language

I look forward to continuing to participate at the next Town Hall meeting
